web_updates.jpgUpdating your website properly is an easy strategy that very few companies spend adequate time on. Most websites are updated by adding new articles, products, services and so forth. The bulk of the information, however, stays the same – never to be changed since being uploaded.

Fresh content adds value to your website as Google favours new content and regular updates. You might think that simply adding a new article to your site every once in a while will do the trick. Unfortunately, old pages containing static info (such as your ABOUT US page) needs regular updating as well.

The following are considerations for your update strategy. Keep them in mind and you’ll soon see your website ranking higher and, as such, more traffic directed straight to your site.

Update Strategy Considerations


1)    Compose a spreadsheet consisting of all your pages and the content it contains. This will ensure that your strategy is organised and updates are done regularly. You can add your updates and changes to this spreadsheet to document and control the process.

2)    You should reference dynamic content. For example, add a recent project and mention the products or services that it involved. By doing this you update your projects page as well as your products or services page simultaneously. This is almost a self-generating process as one page impacts the other.

3)    Add more depth to your pages by creating subpages, for example a “terminology” page. The more subpages you have, the more value is added to your site.

4)    Recent videos and relevant images should be added as often as possible.

5)    Adding any relevant information to your website counts as updating. This includes news articles and blog posts.
Tip: If you mention dates on your website ensure that they are updated regularly to avoid your website appearing abandoned. Remember, “current” information is only “current” at the time.
